Chapter 4 : Ribsy Becomes a Mascot

* Gulped down : to swallow greedily or rapidly in large amounts

* Lunch buckets : lunch box

* Discourage : to deprive of confidence, hope, or spirit

* Prance : to spring forward on the hind legs, used of a horse

* Exhaust : the escape pr release of vaporous waste material, as from an engine

* Whiff : slight, gentle gust of air, a waft: a whiff of cool air. ( previous chapters)

* Ducked : to lower quickly, especially so as to avoid something

* Dodged : to avoid (a blow, for example) by moving or shifting quickly aside

* Cloakroom : a room where coats and other articles may be left temporarily, as in a theater or school : also called coatroom

* "for Pete's sake" : an exclamation showing surprise, impatience, anger, or some other emotion, depending on the context

* Stiffened : to become tense, rigid, and stiff

* Flopped : to fall or lie down heavily and noisily

* Dozing : to sleep lightly and intermittently (from previous chapters)

* Spurting : to make a brief intense effort or show a sudden increase in activity or speed

* Southpaw : a left-handed person

* Beamed " a radiant smile

* Tool chest : a box, usually with a lid, for storage, safekeeping pf valuables, etc, : a toy chest : a jewelry chest

* Bore : to pierce ( a solid substance) with some rotary cutting instrument

* Gnawing : to bite or chew on , esp.persistently.

* Apologetic : containing an apology or excuse for a fault, failure, insult, injury, etc.

* Startled : to disturb or agitate suddenly as by surprise or alarm.

* Strained : to imparir, injure, or weaken ( a musle, tendon, etc.) by stretching or overextion.

* Squealed : a shrill cry.

* Blackboards : used in classroom with chalk or marker and erasers
