Chapter 3 : Ribsy and Mrs. Frawley.

Characters

* Ribsy : dog, lead character

* Hendry : boy, Ribsy's owner

* Mr. & Mrs. Huggins : Henry's parents

* Mrs.Frawley : the lonely old lady who took Ribsy in, fed and taught him tricks.


Vocabulary

* Patchy : big spots of color ( on the dog's fur)

* Companionable : pleasant to be with : a friend or companion.

* Loped : to run with long, easy strides.

* Footsore : having sore and tender feet, from walking a lot.

* Wagged : to move ( a dog's tail) from side to side.

* "Shoo" : use to scare away a dog, or other animal.

*Beseeching : to beg eagerly: urgently.

* Relented : to become more mild, compassionate, and forgiving.

* Mused : ti think about in silence.

* Galoshes : waterproof rubber boots.

* Spree : a frolic or outing : an indulgence ( example : shopping spree)

* Gunnysacks : burlap sack ( example : like for potatoes)

* Bustled about : to move or act with energy

*Parcel : box, container or package.

* Slink : to move in a slow manner, either from cowardice or shame ( past tense : slunk).

* Bewilder : to confuse or befuddle, especially with numerous conflicting situations, objects, or statement. To cause to lose one's bearing : disorient.

*Sense : Any of the faculties by which stimuli from outside or inside the body are received and felt, as of the faculties of hearing, sight, smell, touch, taste, and equilibrium.

*Startle : to alarm, frighten, or surprise suddenly.

* Defy : to oppose or resist with boldness and assurance.

*Aura : distinctive but intangible quality that seems to surround a person or thing " atmosphere

* Whimper : to cry or sob with soft intermittent sound : whine.

*Hesitate : to doubt, to be uncertain.

*relent : to become more lenient, compassionate, or forgiving.

*Wolfed : to eat greedily or voraciously.

* Fussy : paying great or excessive attention to personal tastes and appearance.

* Doilies : small ornament mats, usually of lace or linen.

* Bundle : a package.

* Puzzled : confused.

* Rhinestones : a colorless artificial gem of paste or glass.

* Stray : to become lost.

* Acquaintance : knowledge of a person acquired by a relationship less intimate than friemdship.

* Tug : to pull at vigorously or repeatedly.

* Brace : an extremely stiff, erect posture.

* Sill : the horizontal member that bears the upright portion of a frame. especially the horizontal member that forms the base of a window.

* Doze off : to fall into a light sleep.

*Primer : an elementary textbook for teaching children to read.

* Bashful : Shy, self-conscious, and awkward in the presence of others.

* Mournful : feeling or expressing sorrow or grief : sorrowful.

*Flop : to fall or lie down heavily and noisily.

* Peered : to look intently, searchingly, or with difficulty.

* Bolted : to start suddenly and run away.
